PAST: The first Marketing mediums

The history of marketing may be traced back to 35 BC, when personal branding and quality claims were first recorded in Pompeii, Italy. Philadelphia launched the first print magazine in 1741. Posters were prohibited on London properties in 1839 because they were so extensively used. In 1867, less than 30 years later, the first billboard was installed.

If you go way back, many businesses relied solely on word-of-mouth to advertise how great their products and services were. Following that, radio advertising was used, which were quite successful at the time and in that period of marketing. Other significant elements of the marketing campaign included television advertising, magazines, banners, and flyers.

The technology revolution that has recently occurred has improved marketing for businesses. This revolution heavily relies on the internet.

The transition from traditional media marketing. This has been swift and significant
Flyers, Billboards, Pole posters, and Television, –> Digital billboards, Social media, Google ads, and other significant kinds of digital media.

The R.O.I. that effective digital marketing can deliver, makes it much easier to see why firms are placing more and more emphasis on this sector. Marketers can choose and interact with a highly targeted consumer base through digital marketing campaigns. This implies that a lot less money is wasted on advertising to eyes who aren’t considering what your business has to say. Running customised digital ads also gives you the opportunity to collect knowledge of what is effective and then modify and improve them in real-time. This gives you the interaction and sales that conventional media would find difficult to attain.

A partial summary of current trends the digital world is consuming includes Content Writing, Social media marketing, Retargeting campaigns, Targeted emails, Video ads and Display ads.

FUTURE: Scope of Marketing

We can conclude that when technology becomes more widely accessible, people are more open to marketing strategies, that too when the information is organised specifically for them. In a time when almost everything is user-specific, marketing should be no exception. Future innovations that can be foreseen include:

  • Marketing automation
  • Real-time personalisation through Smart home devices like Alexa
  • Virtual reality and Augmented reality
